It only took one day in Yorkshire for Kim to realize that a part of her had been desperately missing this. The Wells farmhouse isn't Ysanne's cottage, of course, but the space away from people, the peace and quiet -- those things are the same, and very much needed.

It's very different from Toronto, of course, and from what she'd always planned to do with her life. And yet... she's slowly coming to the realization that since Fionavar, her life is never again going to be what it was.

What that means for the future, Kim doesn't yet know.

For the moment, she's not thinking about it. She's packed up some bread and cheese from Annie's kitchen, and gone for a walk outside, under the open sky.

To give her credit, it only takes a moment before she grins.

"Do you do that sort of thing a lot?"

"Almost constantly. Try not to on this side of the door, but Wells keeps findin' trouble."

And Ace keeps tagging along in hopes she'll get to blow it up.

"He does seem to have a knack for it, from what I've seen and heard," Kim agrees, then turns to look out over the farm.

"It's quiet here, though."

There's an unconscious wistfulness underneath her words.

"Yeah. Never thought I could be at home somewhere so... non-chaotic. Goes against the grain a bit." So Ace livens things up once in a while. So sue her.

She can afford it, if nothing else. >.>

"I always thought I was more of a city girl, myself," Kim admits, looking back at Ace.

"Or used to, anyway."

"Eh. Cities are a'right." Says the gal who lived in one for fifty years. "Less slums an' run-down suburbs in the country."

She lived in one of those too.

Guess which she prefers?

"And more goats."

Clear gray eyes are dancing with laughter, but Kim manages to keep a perfectly straight face.

"There is that. Careful, or Spoon'll have y'milkin' those goats, though Cora seems just as happy t'be doin' it."

Ace finds it terribly cute.

Kim laughs.

"Annie warned me about that too. I think it's just as well Cora seems to like it."

"Cora'd like jumpin' off a cliff if Spoon suggested it. The girl's besotted."

Like Ace isn't. Yah-huh.

"I think that's going around," Kim teases.

"Oh, don't worry. He won't embarrass you with it." Ace sympathizes right back. "Wells might give y'a hard time, but that's just Wells bein' himself. Spoon can't help bein' gorgeous, y'were bound t'fall for him."

Don't mess with the master, Kim.

Kim blinks, then bursts out laughing as she raises both hands in surrender.

"You win! Anyway, it'd be a really bad idea for me to get involved with a patient, so."

"Well. That, an' y'might fall asleep one night only t'wake up in ancient Rome or sommat." Ace supplies innocently.

She makes a face.

"If I were to end up in ancient anywhere, I think I'd pick somewhere else."

"No?" Ace pauses, and considers. "Woodstock's seventy-fifth revival show? More Ensure goin' 'round than weed."

Kim just stares at her, and starts laughing again.
